The Research Institute for Flexible Materials (RiFLEX) was established in 2000 under the direction of Prof. George Stylios. 

 

 

RiFLEX was established with the remit to undertake funded research, PhD supervision, continuous education, conferences, publishing and community networking. Over the last 10 years RiFLEX has lead in a number of initiatives funded by government and industry;

  • The UK partnership in technical textiles, TechniTex.
  • The EPSRC Core Faraday Project ; Engineering the performance and functional properties of technical textiles.
  • The HOMETEX EU/ERDF project on 3D Modelling.
  • The EU F5 INEUROTEX.
  • The TSB flagship collaborative research project in the Modelling and visualisation in high performance textiles.
  • The EPSRC project on Fluid flow modelling of textiles against chemical and biological substances.
  • The TSB project on Micro and nano membranes for the control release of biomedicals.
